It seems that a main foreign policy point this crop of GOP hopefuls involves literally invading our neighbor to South. We talked with Carlos Martinez, professor of Latin American studies, about this preposterous idea.
Trump has also floated the idea of sending “special forces” and using “cyber warfare” to target cartel leaders if he’s reelected. It’s clear the overdose epidemic is a serious problem, nearly 71,000 Americans died in 2021 from synthetic-opioid overdoses — namely fentanyl. But in what world does sending troops to “secret factories in Mexico” fix the problem?
President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador said in March he is openly against any U.S. military involvement in his country to take on the cartels. “In addition to being irresponsible, it is an offense to the people of Mexico.”
