14:53Now PlayingComedians and actors are speaking about the Israel-Hamas conflict and giving their takes, some surprising.
Sarah Silverman and Amy Schumer have been some of the most vocal in terms unabashedly supporting Israel. Most recently Amy Schumer posted “if you scream ‘genocide’ but were silent about the massacre of October 7th you might hate Jews.” Silverman reshared posts supporting Israel’s move to shut off Gaza’s water and electricity but later claimed she was ‘stoned’ when she did so.
Surprisingly, Dave Chappelle has gotten flack about not being as supportive of Israel as expected. After saying that students should not be denied job offers because they support Palestine, he was told by hecklers to “shut up,” later some fans even walked out when he pointed out that cutting off water and power to Gaza a war crime.
Another group of actors and artists have also used their voices to actively call for a ceasefire. They wrote “We ask that, as President of the United States, you and the US Congress call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost,” read the letter. The signers include names like: Quinta Brunson, Joaquin Phoenix, John Cusack, Kristen Stewart, Ramy Youssef, Jon Stewart, and more.
Meanwhile a separate list of stars have signed a letter thanking President Joe Biden for standing with Israel and asking to keep focus on the hostages in Gaza. That list includes Gal Gadot, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Bradley Cooper, Madonna, Courteney Cox, and Amy Schumer.
