Well, he’s a representative from Louisiana who is an evangelical Southern Baptist who believes in criminalizing sex and abortion and getting rid of trans people. Now, he’s second in line to the presidency after Kamala Harris.
The Christian Nationalist, as you may have guessed, is also an election denier. After the 2020 election, Johnson led the charge of more than 100 Republicans to overturn election results in Wisconsin, Georgia, Michigan, and more.
Johnson previously worked at the Alliance Defending Freedom, or ADF, a designated hate group that uses the courts to push a radical right-wing agenda. While working with the ADF, Johnson tried to use the Supreme Court to criminalize gay sex and overturn Lawrence v. Texas. Even in 2016 he was working to undermine marriage equality in his state.
Johnson secured the speakership after the House languished without a speaker for 22 days. He secured 220 votes and got the endorsement of Trump himself. Should we keep our eyes on Mike?
