Many regular investors have been turned off by platforms like Robinhood and TD Ameritrade after the recent GameStop Short Squeeze. Between retail investors searching for a new platform, and hedge funds flexing their power over the little guy, will the stock market go back to normal?
We brought in friend of Bold and political strategist Ajay Bruno to help us understand what the heck has happened in the past few weeks, and help answer the question, "where is the stock market headed?"
Bruno says that basically the stock for GameStop, a company that has been losing money for years, was bought out by a group of retail investors who got together on the subreddit r/wallstreetbets and went in against the hedge funds and made out with a lot of money. And with all of the outrage we’re seeing about this event, this really shows how broken and corrupt our financial system is.
And bottom line, all of the investigations and seeing if this is illegal really doesn’t make sense. The free market is meant for everyone, from the retail investor to the richest hedge fund, and what has happened with GameStop really could shake the system up in a good way.
