Let’s talk about the Stock Market, and before you dive right in and lose your shirt, David is here to break it down for you.
What is the Stock Market? The Stock Market is where investors and traders sell shares of a company.
What are stocks and shares? A share or stock represents ownership in a company. So if you own a share of that company you own a slice of that company, kind of like a slice of pizza.
So for a company that has 100 shares available and you buy 10 shares, you now own 10% of the company. Huge companies like Amazon have way more shares available, but owning but a sliver of a tech giant, or any large company, can help you build your wealth.
If you want to buy stock in a company, make sure you do your research first. Look at how much money the company makes each quarter, what industry the company is in, how large they are in that industry, and how effective their leadership team. Always make sure that company is set to grow so that you can grow your wallet, too.
If a company goes public or joins the stock market, it’s called an IPO. What is an IPO? It’s an Initial Public Offering. They do this to raise money and get a sense of what their investors believe about the future of their business.
