1:12Now PlayingElectric cars are everywhere now, and for the first time, around 40% of them aren't Teslas. Now, every major carmaker is pumping out electric cars. That includes Chevy, Ford, VW, Hyundai, BMW, Rivian, and Mercedes.
Those are the top brands for EVs. And this is no coincidence because the Biden administration wants 50% of all new car sales by 2030 to be electric. Right now, it's just around 7%. But two years ago, it was a lot less than that at 4%.
But before we get to that ambitious goal, there are few people who really think that we're ready to transition. First of all, do we have the electric infrastructure for half of the cars to be electric on the road? And also, do we have the resources such as lithium for batteries? Probably not.
And lastly, and the elephant in the room, do people actually want an electric car? Many do, but many other Americans remain in love with their gas-guzzling SUVs. This transition is going to be hard, and the government has to start being more aggressive about all of these concerns if Americans are going to adopt electric vehicles.
