Is there a reason why we don’t hear more about atrocities committed by Border Patrol? Well, it’s not because they aren’t happening. The reason we likely don’t hear too much about the violent excesses of these roided-up state thugs is that there are dedicated, but technically illegal, clean up units that go around staging scenes and making sure that there’s no evidence of wrongdoing by U.S. authorities.
The only reason we know that these groups exist is because of whistleblowers like today’s guest, Jenn Budd, a former Border Patrol Agent turned activist and author. During her time as an agent, she personally witnessed these units operating illegally to ensure that there is no justice, no accountability, and no understanding of what the real problems are.
These units, referred to as “Critical Investigative Teams” are technically a secret. They do not have the legal authority to conduct investigations, and regularly sabotage efforts by other law enforcement groups to investigate the Border Patrol’s gross wrongdoings. Letting all of this happen, and only giving them more money and more support, has been the bi-partisan policy of every administration since (at least) Carter. It must end. Abolish it now.
