Is there anything that most Democratic and Republican voters agree on? Besides Dolly Parton, of course. One finding from a recent report by Data for Progress and the Revolving Door Project is that most people want the government to go after corrupt corporations.
Biden ran in part on the idea of cracking down on corporate crime, but so far he hasn’t been able to increase funding for the federal agencies that work to crack down on corporate crimes. Although this enjoys massive popularity among both Republicans and Democrats, it’s not really popular among the elite of either party.
The tools to crack down on corporate crime in a manner that is unprecedented in the past 50 years are sitting in front of Biden, waiting to be used. There are plenty of statutes that have been conveniently forgotten, but could be powerful tools in an empowered FTC, FDA, or any other number of federal agencies.
