6:54Now PlayingDid you know that the average American family of four throws away about $1,800 worth of food every single year?!
We’re staying at home more in quarantine 2021, which means more cooking at home and increased food waste. Here at Bold Life, our host, Oni Higgins, sits down with Jaden Hair, Founder of Steamy Kitchen, to talk tips on how to decrease our food waste, and work your way to a zero waste home.
Hair tells us that at home food waste most often comes from either food that spoils in your refrigerator, or leftovers that don’t get eaten. To prevent this, Steamy Kitchen recommends a meal plan in reverse. Instead of finding an extravagant recipe and going to the grocery store to look for ingredients that you won’t use again, see what you already have in your pantry, and build your meals from there.
Hair then says a big step to starting your meal planning in reverse is a kitchen detox. For a kitchen detox, take inventory of all of your food in your refrigerator, freezer, and pantry so you know what you have, and you know where to find it. This is also so you know what food your family likes and doesn’t like and to make room for better, healthier food.
Take a look at the rest of the video to hear what else Hair has to say!
