With everything going on in the stock market for GameStop, AMC, and many other brands, it can be difficult to understand how the stock market works, especially with conditions like these.

With what’s going on with GameStop, AMC, etc, there has been some degree of manipulation to the market based on retail investors piling together to manipulate the stock. But how does this really benefit investors? Not really.

You need to look at the stock market from the point of long term investments. Historically over the past 100 years or so, the stock market’s compound interest has gone up by about 10-15% every single year. In the short term, there are fluctuations and you will have highs and lows and in between. But over time it will go up steadily.

Although, that interim of highs and lows creates sub markets, if you will, and that’s where you see day traders. They go in on a day to day basis and bet on that volatility.

What does Philip recommend? Invest your money and leave it there for 2, 3, even 10 years and let the economy handle the rest.

What’s next for the stock market regarding GameStop, Robinhood, and the like? It’s hard to say. But one great net positive that has come out of this, Philip says, is that this story is bringing investing into the everyday discourse. This, in turn, normalizes discussing assets and understanding things that were only reserved for conversations of certain professionals.
