22:52Now PlayingOn today’s Outkick the Show, Clay Travis discussed the situation with the Chicago Cubs and their banning of a fan for giving the “ok sign.’ This, according to Travis, is a fundamental failure. The hand-sign was shown on television at a Cubs home game behind Doug Glanville, a black announcer, by an unidentified white fan. An Internet group called “4chan” decided to create a hoax by widely promoting the myth that the ok hand-sign is a racist gesture given by white supremacists. As a result, this prank has been widely accepted by the mainstream media and is now being recognized as an offensive, racist gesture. Even the anti-defamation league has come out and identified the sign as innocuous, not racist, and a hoax. Even Theo Epstein has been duped, claiming his viewing of the hand-sign gave him “shivers” and has permanently banned the unidentified fan from Wrigley Field. To make this story even more troubling, and hypocritical, the Cubs just called-up Addison Russell, a wife-beater, to play for the Cubs. Also, the mainstream media is now blurring and pixelating the hand-sign on television and on their Twitter feed because they have decided to buy the lie, yet they are apparently failing to have an issue with Addison Russell and his disturbing history of domestic violence. This is a scary time in our country, said Travis, and sets a dangerous precedent. Someone needs to punch back. Clay Travis then discussed the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets series. It has been reported that Kevin Durant’s calf injury will prevent him from finishing the series. Clay Travis has predicted, and placed money on the line, that the Rockets will win the series and go on to win the 2019 NBA Championship.
Clay Travis then talked about playing in the Regions Tradition pro-am in Birmingham, Alabama yesterday, playing in a group with PGA Tour Pro Steve Stricker, Kirby Smart, Taylor Hicks, and JB from Widespread Panic. “You’re the best 20 handicap I have ever played with,” Smart said to Travis, resulting in possibly the best backhanded compliment of Clay Travis has yet to receive.
Clay Travis also announced that Fox Sports is going all-in on sports gambling with Fox Bet, who is investing $200 million in the Stars Group, who, according to their website, is a “a global leader in the online and mobile gaming and interactive entertainment industries.” The Fox Bet initiative will have a presence in every state that legalizes sports gambling. Lock It In and Outkick will benefit directly from this move by Fox, said Travis.
Finally, Clay Travis mentioned Kyrie Irving and the “ridiculous story” surrounding the Celtic player and where he might end up playing next season. According to Travis, the Boston Celtics are far worse with him on the roster, and the team who ends up with Irving will be miserable.
